Geography
Although La Digue is Seychelles’ fourth largest granitic island, it still measures no more that 5km long by 3km wide and covers only 4km².
Its population of around 2,500 makes it Seychelles third most populated island.
The island’s low-lying coastal plateau, where most residents live, rises sharply to the east culminating at the Nid Aigle (Eagle’s Nest), some 333 metres (1092 feet) above sea level. But even before reaching the summit, the island’s mountain ridge provides a stunning panorama of the La Digue plateau and, looking further west, across the sea, of the islands of Praslin, Felicite and Marianne.

Climate and Seasons
Seychelles enjoys a year round tropical climate. There is only a slight variation in temperature between 27 and 31°c during the two different seasons of the year. At night the temperature drops by 1-2°c. The seasons are determined by the prevailing wind directions.

Electricity
220-240 voltage.
Seychelles uses the three pin point electrical socket. Adaptors are available on the island.

Shops
One main supermarket, Gregoire’s, offers a wide range of goods. Gregoires’ is found in the centre of the village, while other small stores are dotted at various part of the island offering a smaller selection of goods.
Souvenirs are on display at the La Passe kiosks near the jetty. Local fruit stalls can be found at the road side at several junctions along your way.

Should you wish to have the doctor’s visit in the comfort of your hotel, doctors can be reached on 423 4 255/423 4 080 and will endeavour to provide a fast and efficient service. The call out service will, however, incur an additional cost.

Entertainment
Many of La Digue’s hotels organise weekly or twice weekly barbecue buffet evenings, with live entertainment provided by popular local musicians, who add a Creole flavour to the atmosphere to match the food!
On weekends the La Digue community centre is open from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. for discos and local band entertainment, where Diguois let down their hair to a mix of modern and traditional music and where visitors are welcome to enjoy the local nightlife.
Enquire at your hotel reception or ask a local for the latest happenings.
Amongst the popular entertainment venues are the jetty side Tarosa and the Casino Fun Park.

Internet
Wireless internet or internet corners are available in most hotels. If you would prefer to check your email amongst the local crowd there are three internet cafes close to the jetty at La Passe.

Religion
La Digue’s population is over 90% Roman Catholic, as testified by the burgeoning Sunday services at the island’s St Mary’ church.
Mass is celebrated every Saturday afternoon at 16:00 and Sunday morning at 08:30 except for special celebrations which begin at 09:00.
